Boswellia can be propagated from seeds or cuttings.
Seeds should be soaked in water for at least 24 hours before planting to improve germination rates, which are naturally low.
Sow seeds in a pot with a mix of one part sand and one part seed-starting mix, lightly cover with soil, and maintain humidity with plastic wrap until germination occurs.
For cuttings, use root sprouts or 6–8 inch stem cuttings from a healthy plant, planting about one-third of their length into well-draining soil and tamping down for support.
The aromatic frankincense resin can be harvested by making small incisions in the bark during dry periods. Young trees produce the best resin, but older trees also yield usable sap.
